Too many companies and marketers base their decisions purely on assumptions or „gut feelings.“ They believe they know exactly which advertising campaign, website design, or offer wording will produce the best results. But in reality, the market may behave completely differently than you expect, meaning you could potentially lose money. sales opportunities and conversions.
A/B testing (or split testing) is a method that allows you to clearly and measurably determine which variant actually performs better. 1) Number of visitors: Statistically, the more people who take the test, the more reliable result. If your site has very few visitors (e.g. a few dozen per day), the test may become time-consuming.
2) Statistical significance: Marketing and analytics tools (e.g. Google Optimize, VWO, Optimizely) often automatically show when a result is being achieved 95% confidence levels (or „rarely by chance“). The goal is to be reasonably certain that the difference between A and B is not lucky chance.
3) Test duration: Hint: The test might work with average traffic at least 7–14 days, to cover different days of the week and patterns of behavior. If there is a very high flow of visitors, a shorter period may be sufficient until a sample of the required size is collected.
